Kick Off 2026 Strong: Join Free Week at Red River Cultural District
If you're looking to start 2026 with some genuine Austin vibe, we’ve got just the thing: Free Week, happening January 9–10, 2026, right at the heart of the Red River Cultural District (RRCD).
What’s Free Week?
Free Week is a long-standing tradition in Austin. It’s a music festival where dozens of local bands and artists play across multiple venues and concerts are admission-free for attendees. It was originally started back in 2003 to help keep clubs and venues afloat during the slower winter months.
Where and When
- Dates: January 9-10, 2026
- Location: Various music venues throughout the Red River Cultural District — a cluster of well-known music spots in downtown Austin.
- Expect live music every night, local talent, and a full-on community celebration of Austin’s legendary “live music” spirit.
Why You Should Go (Especially If You Live at The Anderson)
As residents at The Anderson, Free Week is a fantastic opportunity to experience Austin culture close to home. Here’s why we think it’s perfect for you:
- Zero Cover Charge — It is totally free to attend, so it’s a budget-friendly way to enjoy live music.
- Discover Local Talent — Over 80 (or more) local bands are slated to perform at 14+ venues during Free Week, many for the first time.
- Flexible Vibe — With so many venues close to each other in the district, you can hop from show to show, make it a spontaneous night out, or plan ahead with friends.
- Support the Local Music Scene — Even though concerts are free, the event raises funds for the nonprofit behind RRCD, helping pay artists and keep Austin’s music culture thriving.
Tips for Residents Going to Free Week
- Check the Schedule — Details of participating venues and lineup are usually available on the RRCD event page before Free Week.
- Plan For a Stroll — Many venues are within a compact walking area, making it easy to visit multiple shows in one night.
- Give Back if You Can — While shows are free, donations are encouraged to support artists and venues.
- Invite Friends — Free music, easy night out, and good community energy make this a great group outing.
From all of us at The Anderson, we hope your 2026 gets off to an amazing start with music, community, and good times. If you go, we’d love to hear which shows you catch and how your night unfolds!
